1) Select specific text to get a summary or explanation
Do you need to summarize, paraphrase, or just an explanation of a specific paragraph or section of your PDF?
No worries. PDF.ai will do it for you!
All you need to do is:
- Log in to your PDF.ai account.
- Access the document you want by going to your uploaded documents. Alternatively, if the document still needs to be uploaded, please see this article for more information on how you can upload a document.
- Once the document is open, you may select text from the document, right-click, and choose either summary or explain text.
Note: The explanation or summary of your chosen text will also provide you with your selected text's related pages (where the answers came from). 🤝
By now, you may be thinking about everything you can achieve with this feature alone.
It can be great if you are a:
- Student working on a paper or preparing for a test
- Professional that deals with heavy reading or lengthy documents (legal, medical, financial)
- Content creator and writer looking for inspiration and ideas
What other great applications do you see for it?
2) Prompt Library
Once PDF.ai becomes a part of your daily life or an essential element of your workflow, you may realize that your process involves using some “prompts” repetitively.
Thinking about that, we added an option for you to save your favorite prompts so you don’t have to ask your PDF the same things over and over.
How do I save a prompt?
- From your current chat, hover your mouse over the prompt you want to save until the “+” icon appears.
- Click the “+” icon, and a success prompt will appear once added.
- You can now click on the prompt library to retrieve your prompts anytime.
Need help figuring out what to ask? Click on the💡icon on your PDF.ai controls to get prompt ideas.
How do I edit or modify a saved prompt?
If you decide your prompt needs to be changed or improved, you can edit it in your library by doing the following:
- Go into your prompt library.
- Click the pencil icon for the prompt you want to edit.
- Hit Save once done.
Tip: You can remove the unused prompts by clicking the trash icon.
3) Let the PDF.ai bot speak your language
What if your PDF’s text was written in a foreign language?
That’s not a problem!
You can upload a PDF in one language and ask your questions in another.
The answers given by PDF.ai will be sent in the language you choose. 🤯
For example, upload a PDF in French and get your responses, summaries, explanations, and more in English or the language of your preference.
Access any file from your documents dashboard to open a chat and ask a question in a language different from the one in the document.
PDF.ai will send your answers in the language that you used to ask.
4) Use tags to categorize different PDF documents
If you are dealing with many documents daily, having a way to categorize them can definitely makle a difference in your workload.
That’s why PDF.ai allows you to tag your documents.
To tag a document, go to your document dashboard and click on the pencil icon next to the file to which you want to add the tag.
Alternatively, add the tag while you are uploading a document.
To view documents with tag selection, click the tag your document is related to.
5) Rename a PDF document
Many PDF documents have weird auto-generated names, making it challenging to identify if you are working with multiple documents and their names are similar.
Maybe you have a system with specific tags or codes in the document name…
Or maybe you just want to change the name. 🙃
Either way, you can rename a PDF directly in PDF.ai by going to your document dashboard and clicking on the pencil icon next to the file you want to rename.
Write the new name and click “Save”.
6) Set private to a document
Finally, if your information is highly sensitive and you prefer that it’s not uploaded into our systems, you can add it as a “private” document.
Just access your document dashboard and upload a file. Then click the “private document?” checkbox and “Upload.”
We will not upload a private PDF file to our systems.
Although you won't be able to examine the document, you can still chat with it.
Please note that you may only set a document as private before the uploading process starts.
We got to the end of our guide.
As you have learned or reaffirmed, PDF.ai is the perfect companion for anyone looking to become super productive when working with PDF documents.
Your studies, work, or projects don’t have to be boring or slow.
Just let PDF.ai do the hard part.
